Only just getting into fitness at the age of 15, I would have never thought my career path was going to take such turn. From despising fitness through childhood and being extremely sedentary despite my parents always trying to get me active nothing seemed to give me that motivation to start bettering myself. It was influence from my “tubby” buddy Reece that I joined him on the School Rugby team to give him some company. The ball started rolling, Rugby gave me that edge and excitement that I never had before! Sure, I was only getting 10 minutes playing time but it started to give me a reason to start training.
One thing led to another and before I knew it my Dad had signed me up to the local Rugby Club Aldwinians, Rishworth had started a young development program in the gym and I actually started thinking about what I looked like. I began to find sanctuary in the gym on lunch breaks at School and completely disregarded any other lunch time activities, this was my playground! With no ego’s around, and with great guidance from Strength Coach Richard Hunwicks I was able to progress without any barriers.
With my future career beginning to look clearer by the week, I signed up with a level 2 gym instructor course with Premier Training International, The best course provider for Personal Trainers who want to make a long career in the fitness industry! Doing the course around my college studies allowed me to keep my options open, not being the most academic in School made it difficult to balance training and studying. In the summer of 2011, I completed my Level 3 Personal Training qualification and I would never have to look at another A-level again now I had left Rishworth Sixth Form. During the time at Rishworth I got myself a job at the local gym after being turned down from 10 job roles, including: Argos, cinemas, Bowling, Nandos and even lazer quest marshal – I know right !
By the age of 18, I knew what I wanted and with savings from the extra shifts at the local gym, I built my own Personal Training studio, it was in no means a David Lloyd or an LA Fitness but it was I wanted and fully equipped with equipment I felt was necessary to achieve my clients goals! I slogged it out, working any hour and every hour i could to make the most out of the day, with no work life balance I did what ever, when ever! 6 months past and I was in a fortunate position with the great success of the business, I upgraded my 4th floor 600 sqft studio to a huge 3000sqft gym! It was a massive change and over time Lquinn Training has evolved from nothing to a fully functioning private studio, 5 in house trainers, a range of Fitness classes and Bootcamps and now with plans to expand the brand! With a taste for hard work, I realised that in order to keep investing in my business I needed extra income to live, so the brain storming commenced! And without the attitude for doorman jobs I was stuck, until I realised the assists I had, so with nothing but some fake tan, apron and Dutch courage I signed up to Topless Butlers agencies and Stripping work! It was great, and excuse to stay in shape, and earning money from having 56 year hold women scratching your glutes!
Staying in the stripping service for 2 years I was able to proudly hang up my apron and crack on with the next chapter – fully clothed!
